Meet the Dietitian

Danielle Shargorodsky, RD, LDNDanielle Shargorodsky, RD, LDN is the Registered Dietitian for the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. After graduating from the University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University with degrees in Kinesiology and Dietetics she worked two and a half years at Carney Hospital in Dorchester, Massachusetts. Danielle worked as a Clinical Dietitian with responsibilities including assessing nutrition status, counseling, and medical nutrition therapy for patients in the

ICU, RCU, SDU, surgical and psychiatric (adolescent, adult, and elderly) units.

She initiated and led nutrition groups and food demonstrations for patients. Her clinical experience gave her the skills and foundation needed for UMASS Dartmouth. At UMASS Dartmouth, Danielle is responsible for nutrition education, counseling students, menu planning, cooking demonstrations, highlighting daily well balanced meals in the resident dining hall and commuter cafe, and assistance for students with special dietary needs including celiac and food allergies.

  • Danielle's Daily PlateCheck out "Danielle’s Daily Plate" available in the resident dining hall and commuter café. Danielle’s Daily Plate features nutritious, tasty plates meeting well balance criteria as featured.
  • Look for our special logo that identifies well balanced, vegetarian, vegan, and carb friendly dishes.
  • Don't miss these healthy options that are always available in the Dining Hall......fresh fruit, salad bar, vegetable dishes, whole grain bread and wraps, low fat yogurt, cottage cheese, frozen yogurt, & milk, plus much more.
  • Visit www.BalanceMindBodySoul.com for the latest in nutrition and health information that promotes balance through healthy living. This website provides you with the tools to manage your diet, calculate your body mass index, learn about food allergies, ask a dietitian, and more.

Counseling

All students have access to nutrition services with Sodexo by Registered Dietitian, Danielle Shargorodsky to address your needs. I will be available for private nutrition counseling sessions for weight management, food allergies, healthy eating, medical nutrition related issues, etc. Please contact Health Services x8982 to schedule an appointment. All appointments are free and confidential.

Vegetarian / Vegan

Vegetarian / VeganThe Resident Dining Halls are committed to serving our vegetarian/vegan population. We currently feature vegetarian/vegan dishes at every meal which consist of various items such as tofu stir-fry's, lentil and bean dishes, whole grain options (i.e. whole wheat pasta and brown rice), and sandwich and pizza combinations. We also have numerous options available daily in the Resident Dining Hall which include an extensive salad bar, veggie of the day, soymilk, fresh fruit veggie burgers, and more. Look for our Vegetarian / Vegan Pantry, V² in the Resident Dining Hall which includes lactaid milk, soymilk and offers low fat vegan desserts created by our pastry chef every Monday and Friday. Check out some of our favorite vegan desserts.

Vegetarian / Vegan options are available all around campus at our carts and retail locations. Options include: hummus and carrot sticks, low fat yogurt parfaits, sandwich and salad combinations, smoothies, fruit, and more.


Food Allergies / Special Dietary Needs

If you are arriving on campus for the first time and have special dietary needs for a medical condition or food allergy please contact the Registered Dietitian, Danielle Shargorodsky, RD, LDN so we can assist you. All students have access to nutrition services with Sodexo by the dietitian for a free, confidential appointment. Danielle Shargorodsky, RD, LDN will assist you with finding foods in the Resident Dining Halls and retail outlets around campus to meet your needs.

Dining Services will do everything we can to support your allergies / intolerances. Not all choices are available everyday. Please call Health Services (508) 999-8982 to schedule an appointment with the dietitian.
